It's finally here! and a lens question

Yeah! After days of stalking the UPS man my k-x is here! I got the 2 lens kit with the 18-55 and 55-300. I'm going to be doing a lot of shooting this weekend. And snow tomorrow, snow has always been one of my favorite things to shoot in. And the christmas tree to shoot! Oh boy, can you tell I'm excited?

Now, I've just got to put together everything I know from shooting manual on my P&S Fuji and shooting my Canon F-1 (got to get used to an autofocus lens now!). This is going to be fun.

First question (Yes, I know, RTFM)... is f/5.6 the lowest (highest) setting on the 18-55? I thought it was supposed to be 4.3? Or am I missing something? Does it tie into the shutter speed somehow? Off to price a 50mm 1.4 (got one for the F-1 and LOVE this lens).

Thanks!

Tamara

Ooops, never mind. I just figured out the aperture is tied to the focal length. (Yes, I also now know that it's 3.5... who needs to RTFM, just play with the camera Silly woman...)

Haha...... You are right. At 18mm the biggest aperture is 3.5 and at 55mm its 5.6. The same rules apply to the 55-300.

Be aware of the different field of view of 50mm on film and on your Pentax.

From the same position, look through the viewfinder of both (kit lens set to 50/55mm) and notice the difference.

Enjoy your new toy.

Show us some snowy pics when you have them. Re the sig, go outside and look down. No matter where you walk, you're standing on it. That was my guess anyway.
