Mode Dial Question

Got my K-x body in the mail today but I'm still waiting on the lens, so I figured I would play around with the menus and settings. However, the camera reads aperture priority mode in the screen even when I change it to other modes. The only other modes that it does switch to is manual and movie mode. All the rest, Sv, Tv, scene modes, AUTO PICT still read aperture priority. Is this normal? Do I need to have a lens attached in order for them to work?

It will stick to Av when the mode dial is not at M with no lens, so it works just as expected.

The default for auto-pic or P mode is configurable in the menu burried somewhere, you can set Tv or MTF as well.
