if u are only interested in macro photography i highly recommend u buying a used k10d,and 1:1 macro lens with yn460 or any manuel lens witch a bracket.
macro shots over iso 100 doesnt give that much detail, and u k10d is a great camera for macro(weather sealing, 22bit color rendering and 1/3 price of k-r)

Hi there

Many thanks for your reply. I love macro, but I'm not just looking for a macro setup. I kind of have my eye on the K-r as it's got in-body AF and image stabilisation, and quite good low-light performance. Well, that's what the reviews and specs say anyways.

I have long time asking myself what focal length on k20 should I use for SR in case of reverse ring - may be it's not as important since I always use flash.

I use reverse ring with M 28/f2.8, and M 50/f1.7.

Thanks.

Unless I'm seriously mistaken somehow, reversing the lens does not change the focal length of the (single) lens. Only the distance to subject changes. Use the actual focal length of the lens for your SR.

Yes, reversing a lens, it retains the same focal length. But if you look closely at the camera manual, it says that SR is unreliable at close distances. And of course you'll have SR switched off when using a tripod, which is just about mandatory when shooting with the lens reversed. SR works well with normal lenses at normal (non-macro) working distances. It's not a macro butt-saver, alas.

Thanks JeffJS and RioRico. That clarifies the issues.
I just keep shooting with flash and without SR, and no tripod for macro in my shooting.

In case you ever want to shoot studio macros with camera support, here's a bargain alternative: I see old enlargers and enlarger stands in thrift shops, sold for very few dollars. Such can make an ideal macro 'pod.
