Lens Hood and External Flash

I know I shouldn't use the lens hood when I'm using the built-in flash on my K-7. But, should I use the hood whenever I'm using external flash?

Personally, I don't use a hood with external flash and can't see why you would need to,(in most cases).

I think it boils down to your own choice. Try both options, experiment and make a decision best suited to your desired results.

There is no discernible difference in results with or without a hood when using flash, except for trying to control the stray light coming in from elsewhere from the side of the lens and causing flare.

Thanks for the replies. I suppose, as suggested in some other threads, the hood might provide some lens protection.

I keep the hood on, unless it gets in the way of the flash, which is seldom, and only seems to happen with close focus using long lenses.
