Speed definitely matters if you care about it. It's not a huge deal to have to wait a bit for portrait sessions, but it's annoying. Sunday I did a rush session, for prints before Xmas, so I had the clients stick around for quick proofing. It was also really annoying how long it took to upload the files to my computer.
I use a Sandisk Extreme jobbie too... Never notice write time

About uploading files to computer... I have 2 card readers and 1 is considerably quicker than the other... Might be worth looking at that?
