HaHa more than once I've started to shoot without a card in the camera.
and often at the wrong WB (i have the preview turned off and rarely look until later no chimping for me, though sometimes i should)

If a photo is underexposed and high ISO (most cameras 800 and over) when you increase the exposure the noise gets bad. try to shoot in ISO priority at a lower ISO with exposure compension set to +.75 (try different combos)
try auto program mode with increased exposure compensation,
try different metering
try camera raw in combination of the above
