pic for forum photo

Hi
Trying to resize a picture, in GIMP ( UNIX/Mac photoshop type software...) to the recommended 80 x 80 PIXELS ?
My photo...straight from the K-x is 2924 x 2624 at 72 DPI
I resize it to 80 x 80 pixels and it comes out as this teensy tiny blurred thing.
Suggestions? Easier way to do it? its been a long time for me. Can't be right is it?

Thanks
Gene

I have never used GIMP but I have photoshop CS5 and there is an option for quality setting when I resize an image. I have resized images without losing quality by choosing a high quality setting. Hopefully someone can tell you exactly how to do it with GIMP because all I can say is to look for that option or something similar.

**As I was typing this response I thought to do a google search for "resize image" and this is what came up. Never tried any of them but it can hurt. Link is below.

I guess smilinpig is talking about the avatar. Yes, 80x80 is small.

I suggest that you first crop the image to a square so scaling will not deform it. Also, only use the interesting part of an image by selecting and using image -> crop to selection. Next use image -> scale image to resize it to 80x80

Example image (heavily resized for web display purposes)

Crop the interesting part (in my case 1000x1000; for web purposes, I resized to 400x400 after the cropping)
