AA batteries

I guess this is a common problem, so I'll do some research, but I just receive my new used K-x and my wife and I were messing with it all day. I took maybe 25 pictures, but have been monkeying around all day. The battery life is now red. Will they die that fast, and if so, what batteries do I need so I don't spend a fortune constantly replacing? We put AA Energizer today. One day will kill 4 new batteries? I hope it's a battery issue, and not the camera...Sounds like a problem after reading some of the posts.

Read this, should help.www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-camera-field-accessories/92821-battery-k-x-other-cameras-take-aas.html
The quick answer is to update firmware and use Eneloop`s or Energizer lithium batteries.
Actually you want to put in lithium`s before doing a firmware update.

The camera is fine, you are using the wrong batteries. There are approximately 1,000,000 posts on this topic that boil down to this: Use Sanyo Eneloops if you want rechargables, use Energiser Lithiums if not.

Buy the ULTIMATE Energizer lithiums, the most powerful they sell.

And from time to time, you will get a half-power indication, so just turn the camera off, power it up again, and that will go away for a long while.

The cam has a real problem reading battery levels, and this isn't a minor problem. Even with the firmware update, Pentax engineering really screwed up with this.

And it's for this reason that regular alkalines are WORTHLESS here. The batteries can have tons of power--and they usually do--but the camera shuts off as if they're dead.

Just get yourself a set of Sanyo Eneloop with whatever Sanyo bundled charger it came with. The new Sanyo XX with higher capacity is coming and should be here in 6 month I think.

Agreed... Eneloops last at least twice as long as my other 2 sets of rechargeables...

Don't know if you guys in the US have Duracell rechargeables but I'd avoid like the plague... Bought a set... charged them up and got a whimpering 10 shots before death... Truly pathetic!!

Like any brands, Duracell have at least 2 different NiMH. One is the regular, the precharged one is actually Sanyo Eneloop in Duracell label. I have a few sets myself and they perform the same as Eneloop.
