Actually you want to put in lithium`s before doing a firmware update.
Buy the ULTIMATE Energizer lithiums, the most powerful they sell.
And from time to time, you will get a half-power indication, so just turn the camera off, power it up again, and that will go away for a long while.
The cam has a real problem reading battery levels, and this isn't a minor problem. Even with the firmware update, Pentax engineering really screwed up with this.
And it's for this reason that regular alkalines are WORTHLESS here. The batteries can have tons of power--and they usually do--but the camera shuts off as if they're dead.
