Why, oh why? Manual woes with K-x

I have an old (I guess - looks old) Pentax 400/5.6, newly bought from Ffordes, which works very well with my K-7 and my K-5.

With my K-x it just doesn't work, nor with my manual T6-2X converter attached. It simply refuses to operate the shutter (camera set to Av and Manual Focus, yes), while even with no lens attached everything is totally normal.

I just can't figure it out - any ideas?!

In short, I am baffled, stunned and not a little p*ss*d off!

Permit fire with aperture not in A position?

EDIT: well, if your Kx is working even without lens, it cannot be this...
Is this an A lens?

That's what I asked, but if the camera fires without lens, then yes...
