Shooting an album cover...

Shooting a friends band on Sunday for their independently released forthcoming album...

They're a 3-piece psychedelic folk band...

Location is on a patch of grass overlooking a village...
Plan on having them grouped on the left of the frame... Leaving room for Band name/logo and album title texts...

They've said the want a kinda underexposed look... But I'm going to shoot to as correct exposure as possible and
darken in LR3

Hopefully start shooting around 8.30am... not sure of the direction of the desired shot as yet (in terms of the sun... could go horribly wrong!!)

kit list: K-x... Tripod... Tamron 17-50 f2.8, Vivitar 19mm f3.8, Pentax m-50 f1.7 and spare batteries and memory card in case of failure.

Will have af240z flashgun and wireless triggers in bag too...

Am I covered or missing anything crucial? Anything like filters I should be able to borrow... but not sure I'll need them. (?)

I am being paid in beer and food... They're friends and they're skint too!

Are you 100% sure their picture has to go on the cover, and not back cover? Who's doing the layout for it?

I understand the ego factor, but there's nothing more boring than a couple of musicians standing and trying to act cool.

Just a thought to maybe point you in a more creative direction.

After all, since The Monkees, album covers have been all downhill.

Hi Ira... Their call... It's tweed, waistcoats, flatcaps, walking sticks and pipe smoking all the way...
The Idea is that they are surveying 'their village' which fits with one of the single releases...
There's a definitive 'style' they're after... I've just got to try give them what they want...

To an extent... I quite like the confines of working to their vision... I guess its that I have to be fairly subtle in making sure it looks like one of 'my' images... Kind of indirectly challenging...

Wonder what its like for Pro-photographers who are constantly working to the 'briefs' of different clients?

Anyhow... I reckon I'm set for gear (or as pretty much set as I can be!!) Just have to hope for nice light and no rain I guess...

Don't forget to include ducks, a monolith, naked women, and a UFO.

And don't forget the fisheye lens and a hatchet. That's for the ducks.

Dave, ask them if they ever heard of a group called Psychedelic Grass--a jazz BLUEGRASS band.

Amazing stuff.

LOL!
It was for the disk not the cover...
So we went and took the shots they requested but they didn't really work out... So after tea and cake and much discussion the shot used ended up being of the 3 at different depths, on a canal-towpath with big looming victorian mill buildings on either side and shot low down (wet knees for me!!)....
Morning went pretty, and used the f2.8Tamron17-50 throughout and happy with it...
Beer is reportedly on its way...
