Pentax Optio S4i

Hi My Pentax Optio S4i Ser/No. 7465263 was working normally in morning but in afternoon when switched on the lens came on and straight back in, I charged the battery and it shows full on indicator but still same thing happens. On replacement of battery the date sometimes comes up. otherwise it just switches on lens comes out then shuts down.

Any advice on way forward

Hi,
Common issues might be obstruction to the lens, this may even be something sticky smudged on the surface that hangs the opening of the lens. The next common thing is grit and dirt, but any of the previous cases would also bring about a error message. For a well used S4i, the other thing is extreme temperatures. Too cold a situation will cause a slow response to the opening and if slow enough, the startup program of the camera will assume the lens is obstructed and try to shutdown.
