DOF and Aperture - how to work out distance?

Any good links to how to work out DOF distance according to focal length?
Only one of my lenses has a DOF scale and I'm struggling to make sense of it.

That depth of field simulator is awesome! Now I know I NEED a F 1.4 lens!

Shows how much difference between 1.4 and 4 which I normally shoot at given the speed of my current lenses.
