doubler lens question

i am a new user. i purchased a K2000. I was told i could use a doubler lens. I purchased an inexpensive Toyo on Ebay. When i attempt to use in manual mode, get a reading on menu of F-----.
is there a setting i am not seeing or that i need to set to? i am attempting to use with lenses supplied. both standard and 50-200 lens give same result.
will this doubler work with this camera?

Yes, there is a setting. See here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-lens-articles/110657-how-use-manua...7-k-x-etc.html

Look for "Allow aperture ring other than a"

Yes, go to your Custom Settings > Using Aperture Ring (19) > Permitted...

Your doubler should work on either lens just as long as there are contacts found on the double similar to the contacts found on your lenses. This allows the camera to know what kind of lens is on the camera, etc. If you do not find these contacts on your doubler, it will still work but limited to the smallest aperture on you lens because they do not have an aperture ring (I assume you are using kit lenses which came with your camera) and yes you will see the F--- steady but not blinking. (if it is blinking you need to adjust your custom settings)

First check your custom settings and doubler for contacts, if all looks good. You should be able to use in Manual mode, being able to adjust both the aperture and shutter speed using the wheel and green button...

Good luck, Rick

doubler lens success

Thanks much for the help. I am able to get the camera to fire now. I just have to play with the aperture settings to get the light correct. Thanks for all the assistance.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-beginners-corner-q/59272-shooting-...x-dslrs-f.html might be of help.

Remember that exposure is a combination of aperture and shutterspeed, not only aperture.
