K20d Banding! How much will this cost to fix?

Soo if you look at this lovely photo here you will see on the left side a lovely dead pixel "band" ... this was shot at 200 ISO i believe soo its not a high ISO issue either.

What are my options to get rid of this? How much is this gonna cost me? lol

If it's only one pixel wide, an annoying but feasible workaround might simply be to make a selection of the whole left part of the image short of the empty space, and move it over one pixel. Can't answer your question regarding repairs costs precisely though. You would likely need the entire sensor replaced and I'm not sure they still stock those from the K20D.

Actually, if you use photoshop you might even be able to create a simple action to do this for you.

In CS5, you can just draw the content aware fill brush down the line, and it magically disappears.

Oh oh, This does not look good...

Replacing the sensor can be done by a Pentax service center, but it will cost you an arm and a leg.
IMHO a second hand K20D is cheaper.

See: Pentax K20D DSLR body, original box with accessories - eBay (item 260761008496 end time Apr-06-11 09:15:05 PDT)

Or on this forum under Market place for ~ $400 - $450.

Success, Bert

either get a second hand k20d as suggested, buy cs5 for content aware tool (at a little more money than a used k20) or move up to a newer model. Sensor replacement outside of warranty is not a viable option (I would guess it would cost as much as a KR body minimum if they could source the sensor), but if you want to be certain pay a repair center the $25 or so estimate fee.

I have called Pentax, they said the general estimate for "circuit board and sensor" is 249. + 12 dollars in shipping back to you hah. They would however not be able to give the actual number until they looked at it.

Does this sound about right?

cheaper than i would have guessed, but still creeping up on a good used piece. if there are no other issues though probably worth spending unless you are looking for a convenient excuse to buy a k5

Si jamais la réparation est trop couteuse à votre gout, Pentax peut vous offrir une réduction sur un appareil neuf, Pentax Canada me l'a déjà offert.

Would they offer me a discount on a K-5??

Edit - I just called Pentax USA, they don't offer trade-ins.

I know you said this is a "general estimate" but thats incredible! They wanted to charge me $265 just to replace the diopter!! How in the world is it cheaper for a new circuit board and sensor, than it is for a probably $2 diopter?

Banding

Have you tried KEH in Atlanta for and estimate ? I hear they are good and guarantee the work.
I saw a K20 on the forum for $300. It had a cracked (repaired) bottom.
Then there is aways eBay for a replacement.
