using dslr to determine light temperature?

If you put a coffee filter on your lens and took a custom light temp correction, would it be an accurate reading of the temp in Kelvin?
just wondering as if this is true it will help to determine the gel filter for room color correction

thanks

I don't know the answer Randy, but I will be monitoring this thread as that is a very good question.

Logically yes. Good idea.

But how can you see what color temperature the camera has chosen? It isn't obvious with my k-x.

I don't know about the k-x but it would likely have to be tethered to photoshop or simular.
wonder what mode the camera needs to be on?
any guesses?

thanks
