White Dot on 50mm f1.4 Super-Tak

What is the difference (if any) between a "normal" Super-Tak 50mm f1.4 and one with a white dot between 1.4 and 2 on the aperture ring? I have both of these and cannot find out any info. These are not SMC/Super Multi Coated...

From what I know, the only purpose of the white dot is to help you mount it in darkness on the body, which has a corresponding dot.

So maybe just different model years, but same lens.

I will take and post a photo (if I can) to show what I mean. It is not an alignment dot on the body. It is directly on the aperture ring, between f1.4 and f2.

It marks the spot for f/2. The 8-element Super-Tak is marked f/2 but the 7-element Super-Tak has the white dot. The S-M-C and SMC went back to having a f/2.

If you take a look at our Pentax lens database, it would show you what to look for.
Heres the link for the 1st version and how to distinguish it: Super-Takumar 50mm F1.4 (Early 8-Element Variant) Reviews - Pentax Lens Reviews & Pentax Lens Database

Here's the 2nd version and how to distinguish it too: SMC/S-M-C/Super Takumar 50mm F1.4 Reviews - Pentax Lens Reviews & Pentax Lens Database

In any case the 1st version has a protruding/bulging back lens.
Hope that helps!

an additional version

Actually, there are three versions of the Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4:
The first one has 8 elements, and has a "2".
The second one has 7 elements, and has a "2". Serial numbers: 2000000 to 2200000 approx. The feet scale appears white rather than light-blue.
The third one has 7 elements, and has a white dot. Its mechanism was updated to make usage of the Spotmatic F & ES's aperture enhancements. The feet scale is light-blue.

The other versions that followed, as we know, are the Super Multi Coated version and the SMC version (rubber contour).
