Zenit 58mm fits but wont work?

Heya,

I just found a lens off an old SLR camera, its a Zenit 58mm 1:2 it fits perfectly on my K-m BUT it wont let me take a photo on manual focus or auto, any suggestions?? should it work or not?

Go into your custom menu on the camera and set "Use Aperture Ring" to Permitted.

What lens was on the Zenit? Zenitar? Helios 44K?

i don't know where the lens came from, it was next to an old praktica but obviously doesn't fit that one. its a Helios 44K-4

Cool! The 44K-4 is highly regarded. I have the similar screw mount Helios 44M and consider it one of my favorite lenses. Shoot in M mode on your K-m with stop-down (green button) metering. You may have exposure issues (under-exposed) at wider apertures (a feature of many Pentax bodies), but with digital, that is easy to live with.
