Shutter does not work when autoflash is on.

I know that the autoflash does not fire if not required, fair enough, but as soon as I set the flash to auto, it pops up and the shutter doesn't work. Has anyone had the same problem? Thanks.

Does the Shutter fire in the exact condition when the flash is Down? Or does it pop up automatically? Is it a Delay or the shutter won't fire at all? In the last case, there is a custom menu option called Release While Charging (allowing will let the shutter fire regardless of the ready state of the flash). Have you tried the same settings in other modes (such as M)?

Welcome aboard to the forums.

I would say the worst case would be the flash has malfunctioned. If that is the case then you are lucky nothing else shorted out when it went. Did you hear a loud "pop" the last time it worked?

Do you get focus confirmation (green hexagon) under the conditions where the shutter does not work?

Borno, "shutter does not work" and "flash not firing" are two different things

Also, if there is not enough charge in the batteries to allow the flash to fire, and you have the camera set to not allow shutter to release if flash is not charged, then shutter will not release. This may be the issue - try a fresh set of batteries and try again.

If the flash is set to be used and it is malfunctioning it may cause the shutter to not fire. This was fairly common with the k10d early flash failure, and that is why I suggested it. Modern cameras are quite complicated and many things are interdependent.

I understand that things depend on each other but I would assume that OP would have phrased the problem differently.

On the other hand, assumption is the mother of all evil

Thanks for all your replies!

Somebody told me it was a matter of settings - the shutter was set to not fire wjilst the flash was charging... What was weird as this was not the setting it was on before - I did not even know this setting existed, never had my previous camera, a K-m, on it enither this... Here we go, hope it does not happen again....
