Old Minolta 132X Flash with K-r?

Hi all,

I have a Minolta 132X flash that was used on a Canon AE-1. I thought I'd pick your brains to see if anyone has any insight into whether or not it would be safe to use this flash on my new K-r?

Thanks.. I had been Googling K-r and 132X etc... but when I added "trigger voltage" I started getting somewhere. In the end, I metered it myself and found it to be under 2v.

So, I put it on and it flashes... BUT, it seems like it is not compatible with the K-r in Manual mode. It will trigger in many of the modes that automatically adjust the shutter speed. I can compensate for shooting inanimate objects by adjusting the +/-EV but living things move and wind up blurry at the slow shutter speeds.

I wonder why it won't trigger in manual? I'm sure I'm just overlooking either the solution or the text that tells me it won't work.

I assume you used a shutter speed of 1/180s or slower. If not, that might be the problem.

THANK YOU! I must not have been. I'm such a noob it just didn't occur to me. I knew the camera limited me to that when using the onboard flash but whenever I tried it with the external one in 'M' I must've been at a faster shutter. As soon as I read your response, I slapped myself on the forehead, grabbed the K-r and 132X and tried again... and wouldn't you know it, works perfectly!

You know, I think my left brain is jealous of the fun my right brain has taking pictures so it refuses to help out with problem solving.
