Ok.
Too bad really: that is the only parameter I know of that would allow the camera to deviate from the settings in M mode.
I agree. I really would like to know the reason, not just a solution. I shoot with a K10D and love it (even though I really like the K5).

I don't think think this was the whole source of the problem. I have my camera set to "Auto EV Compensation ... ON" and my camera follows my instruction and takes good exposures in M (using Green button metering).
In the first post, orcrown said he was getting an overexposure. Several posts later he said the results were either over or under exposed.
If it was the "Auto Exposure Compensation", it should have yielded correct exposures or at least consistant with the green button exposures.
Not necessarily. Who knows what kind of scene he was shooting, or what metering mode? Well, maybe he said at some point, but not being able to repeat the experiment, and if it was matrix metering on a blank wall or something, so much for that theory. Otherwise, though, spot metering a dark object could easily produce an exposure that would be perceived as incorrect, and even matrix and cetner weighted metering aren't going to yield exactly the results desired every time.

Given that the experiment can no longer be repeated, and in the confusion of wondering what was going, it's at least *possible* that memory of what settings were being used might have been off. So I'm still personally guessing this is the problem until proven otherwise.

Manual Auto Change

Hello, I am having the same issue in manual. It appears to be getting worse. When in manual after shooting longer than 2 hours when pushing the shutter button out of the blue the manual setting changes. It almost appears as if the Green button takes over and changes the setting to what it thinks it should be. I have read the forums and I do not have any auto compensations on. In fact today when getting ready for a shot I went to do a couple of test shots in manual at f8 180 using wireless remote with lights and first shot it changed to 2.6 . 5" almost like the camera was saying no it should be this. I then shut off the camera turn it back on reset back to f8 180 push the shutter and again it changed. I shut off the camera reset back to f8 180 and did about 30 shots before it happened again. Did the shut off and reset good for a couple more shots and did it again. Any thoughts or ideas???? This has occurred since the purchase of the camera.

so, i was just having the same problem!!! am on the phone with pentax's customer service and they suggest resetting the functions ... already did it twice, but i do it again. nothing. while on the phone with them i'm messing around with the body and move the shake-reduction lever from off to on and ta-da!!!!! moved it back to off and the problem is still gone! they have me on hold and are talking to the k10d specialist to see if he/she can figure out what the deal with this malfunction is.

they came back to say that it may be related to an external flash, which makes total sense. i had a slave attached to my camera when i turned it on today, but took it off as soon as i noticed things were acting weird. anyways, try your shake-reduction ... it's worth a shot

it just started happening again. it's the ae-l (auto-exposure lock). if you look through your view finder and see an * on the bottom of the screen then it's locked. just press the ae-l button to the right of the camera body. freaking annoying, huh??!?!??!?!?

what is the state of the battery when this happens, and I mean your real estimation of remaining life, not the battery indicator, because it shows full charge until you have about 15 shots left!

One post mentions it started after shooting for 2 hours.

I have never seen the issue, but on my K7 the E-Dials go eratic when battery is close to failing, maybe similar thing, false input sensing due to low battery. What else are you doing at the time,. i.e. focusing etc???
