macro help

okay so im a little confused from looking in all the macro threads as to what exactly is the best macro lens, and basically its the Pentax FA 100mm f2.8 Macro lens
but there is two types
1. Pentax FA 100mm f2.8 Macro lens
2. Pentax D-FA 100mm f2.8 macro

and im just basically wondering, what is the difference between the two besides the d at the front, and i guess also, which is the better one ?

Here's an article explaining the different lens series:

Pentax Lens Terminology

As for opinions on the lenses, check out the reviews on this site (click the Lenses link above). there's actually a *lot* more than just just those two. But only the WR version of the D-FA is currently made; the rest are all long discontinued.

Here is a link to a macro forum on this sight. It should give a good idea what people are doing in this area of picture taking.

Don't worry too much about the differences between the FA and the DFA. Whichever one you can find will do the job for you. FWIW, the DFA has a slight edge on contrast, and is smaller and lighter. Highly recommended.

I have just purchased the DFA 100mm Macro WR lens and am very pleased with the shots I have been able to produce.
It was worth every cent to my way of thinking.
Example of one of my first shots.
