K 10 stuck on debug mode

Thanks to all who tried to help me with my K10 stuck on debug mode. I tried to download the firmware and followed the instructions but they failed. My computer says there was a problem with the firmware download. I got as far as the screen on the camera saying that it had 1.31 version on it and that's it. Where can I get a download that will work? What is the information on the SD card? I have 2 4GB cards I bought new but somewhere I read they have to be formatted? How why and where? I'm about ready to go back to my canon F1 and leave this complicated mess. Thanks for true help with real working download sites and real pertinent information. Keep it simple I'm old and I need my hand held through the process.

I would try a fresh SD card and a fresh download. (Also, I don't know about this, but SD, not SDHC may or may not help, too. A smaller SD card will serve for this, though.)

(I know how you feel about F-1s, though, I have my moments of being the same way about all this computer stuff. Pentax still does seem to be the next best thing unless Canon ever makes a 'Digital back FN.' )

I assumed I could not use the camera at all in the debug mode. So I have not taken one picture. I'm learning that the debug is just a kind of override on the computer in the camera is this right? So the camera is actually fine to use jus that the screen says debug and is black when I turn the camera on? thanks

I believe (if I remember correctly) that yes, the camera should function in Debug mode. If you are running 1.31 and are still in Debug, that's rather unique because to my knowledge, there is no way published to get to debug from that version (1.30 is the latest).

Actually, you can get in and out of debug with 1.31 with no problems. The thing about 1.31 is the old ways of hacking the firmware with a hex editor to allow you to roll back to an earlier version of the firmware didn't work anymore. So, going to 1.31 is a one-way trip.

Camera works fine in Debug mode. You'll burn batteries faster because the LCD is on all the time. If you shoot in high ISO, you'll see more noise because of this.

I leave my K10Ds on Debug all the time because it allows me to adjust AF setting for incandecent vs sunlight while in the field.

You can also format your SD cards using the camera. It's fast and available in the camera menu: Menu button, arrow over to Set-up, arrow down to Format. It's good to format your SD cards periodically to help keep them fast.
