K-5, problems with interval shooting

Hi

Recently, I tried to take timelapse of storms during night, to capture lightning and create a short movie. For that kind of work I have to use longer exposure from 10 to 20 seconds. Problem is that when I set up interval shooting in manual mode with such a long exposures, camera takes just one or maybe two pictures and then displays message "Intervall shooting complete".
How to correct this and get camera to make at least 100 images in interval shooting mode with 10-20 seconds of exposure.

Problem occurs on Pentax K-5 camera.

hi there i've been using the interval function recently as well but not in manual mode.

i've been able to get about 600+ images at one go.

did you set the amount of shots to be taken at the settings before u start the manual mode.

highest can set is 999 shots.

Yes, I've set camera to take 100 pictures at 1 second interval. Shutter speed was 15 sec, ISO 100 and aperture f/8.
I've tried with all my lenses and got same results.

It seems that if exposure is longer than interval between shots then camera can't properly take interval shoots.

hi there i think maybe i know whats wrong.

your shutter speed is 15s. but your interval setting is only 1s.

every 1s it will try to take a picture but the shutter is still in progress.

thus every 16 tries is only manages 1 shutter.

try spreading out your interval timing setting to match your shutter speed setting.

=)

it works!
With 16sec 5 images interval shooting camera takes 4 out of 5 pictures. It looks like timer for interval shooting and for shutter are not synchronised so interval between images needs to be greater, maybe even 17 or 18 seconds. But I'm happy to finding at least some kind of solution for this problem.

You have to also consider "dark frame subtraction". If I recall correctly, Pentax calls it Slow Shutter Speed Noise Reduction and you can find it on page 92 of the K-7 manual, or page 98 of the K-5 manual.
At a 15 sec exposure, the camera can tack on an equal amount of time for DFS, so the interval of 31 seconds might be best. Try taking a single shot at any given slow shutter speed and see how long it takes to process the image. Then set your interval according to that, unless you turn DFS off in the menu.

Dark Frame Substraction was a first thing that I've turned off.

Tnx
