An example of different CFL color temperatures. The ones that look white are GE Soft White, and the blue one is N:Vision (Home Depot house brand) Daylight, labeled 5500K. I set the white balance to tungsten.



You can see why the camera would have trouble picking a white balance under this lamp. It is well worth the effort to make all the bulbs in a room have compatible color temperatures, if you ever take pictures in there.

Wow - you really appreciate the difference when you see them side by side. In 'tricky' lighting I always either take a picture of a white piece of paper and set a manual white balance, or do it in PP from the RAW files - there is normally someone wearing something white!
