SLOW continuous shooting on all modes except auto pict?

Hey everyone! I was shooting ultimate Frisbee, a fast paced outdoor sport, with my pentax k-x and da l 55-300. I noticed that the continuous shooting was only fast in auto picture, what's going on? I wanted to shoot in sports or shutter priority but then I could only get one or two pictures before the action was over. I have lens correction off which I heard can slow it down. Any tips/ ideas? I might be able to upload example pictures once I get home. Thanks!

You can experience slowness when you have noise reduction, expanded dynamic range, shadow/highlight correction, or distortion correction turned on, so make sure you have these disabled for continuous shooting.

To add to Adam's response:

For Hi continuous shooting:

- Do switch off all in-camera postprocessing (PP) incl. lens distortion correction, high-ISO noise reduction, ....

- Have a fast card, preferably a good quality class 10 card like a Sandisk Extreme III;

- Shoot JPEG.

The last one is particularly relevant to K-x which has a small buffer volume compared to K-7/K-5.

Hope that the comments will help.

i have all of those off, but its still slow on tv/sports mode and fast on auto picture. if it was because the card was slow wouldnt it be slow on auto picture too?

Check your file format. Do you have JPEG for both Tv/Sport and Auto?

If your file format is JPEG in Auto and RAW in Tv/Sport, you may have this pb.

Food for thought...
