We don't really know anything about your budget. I will assume you want to get by cheap and I will assume you already have the 18-55mm kit lens. Next buy a DA L 55-300 for about 200 on the forums or off eBay. Then buy a fast 50mm lens for low light. Something like a Pentax A50/1.7 (Manual focus) off eBay or the forums marketplace. That will give you a well rounded kit to get started with.

Lens for Kr

I have a K-x and got a 18-55 and 55-300 DAL package. It's great. Your camera is an upgrade of mine. By the way, did you buy the body only? Didn't your seller offer a package. Usually, a package price is lower than if one buys lens later. The aforementioned lens are pretty good. Check the lens review on this forum. Lots of good info there. Check reviews at Amazon etc. Other folks here will add their two cents. Good luck
PS: Your camera can be used with inexpensive legacy lens. Lots of info on this forum.

There are some "sticky" posts at the beginning of the lens forum, the beginners forum etc that go through the compatibility of lenses, but here is the simple version

pentax lenses beginning SMC-F, or SMC-D are auto focus and can be used with all pentax DSLRs in all modes

lenses beginning SMC-A or Takumar-A are manual focus but have auto aperture support for body controlled aperture and can be used in all exxposure modes, but must be focused Manually

Lenses beginning SMC-M, or SMC Pentax (commonly referred to as K series) , or takumar Bayonet are manual aperture lenses, which must be manually focused, and can only meter and stop down the aperture in the manual mode. These lenses do not permit matrix metering or P-TTL flash, but can be used in TTL flash mode on *istDXX bodies.

Screw mount lenses of any maker, but for pentax are the takumar, auto-takumar, super takumar, super-multi-coated takumar, and SMC-Takumar must be used with an M42-bayonet adaptor and can be used in manual mode or Av mode but like M&K lenses cant use P-TTL flash or matrixz metering.

Bayonet lenses from third party makers with marks PK, are equal to SMC-M and SMC Pentax (K mount) lenses. lenses with PKA/PK-A are equal tp SMC-A lenses, etc...

be aware of KA/R lenses which are made for pentax and ricoh as they have a pin used for ricoh which can get caught in the AF screw drive and be stuck on the body.

In a nutshell that's it.

Simple answer to part of your question, you can use ALL Pentax lenses on your camera, old and new.
But be aware some are M42 lens, which means they have a screw connection to your camera and not the normal K (bayonet) connection.
Screw connection (M42) lens need a special adapter to fit to modern cameras.
Best of luck with your photography.

Stick with the lenses that came with the camera for a couple months... After a couple of months review your 'keepers', check the exif data and see which focal length you use most...
Once you've done this it will (or should) be fairly clear where your LBA (lens buying addiction) will lead you...

In terms of whether you got a good deal on your K-r or not... The simple answer is: Yes, you probably did.

All the best
