35 limited macro trouble

I have this intermittent problem with the autofocus beyond 8 feet. When it tries to focus close to infinity, it locks on but the blinking green light will not let me take the picture. It did this before for about 3 weeks, then went away and all was well. As of today, it is not working again. How much does Pentax charge to send it in?

Thanks for any support.

Have you tried applying a slight AF adjustment?

Are you using AF-C or AF-S? In AF-C you will take a picture regardless of the AF lock.
I am waiting for the short beep (in AF-c) and then fully press the shutter for the picture.

I had the same problem with the DA70 when I had it, I missed a huge number of shots so I returned it (& bought the Tammy 17-50 instead).

There are 4 possible reasons for that:
1) The lens cannot actually hit infinity.
2) The body cannot focus at infinity.
3) The body can focus at infinity but AF back-focus.
4) The screws that hold the focus are loose so the mechanism is shifting in & out.

Thanks you for the advice. The AF-C is useful since it lets me take the photo when I could not in AF-S. I will decide to send it to Pentax for repair later, at least I can take pictures again.

The same thing happens on a K-7 and K-10 body. I suspect a loose screw.

The last chapter to this story is, I had to send it to Pentax and have it fixed. It took a month or six weeks to get it back but it has worked flawlessly ever since.
