*istDS Color distortion after few long exposures

All,

I am noticing color distortion on pictures. Especially, white color becomes pinkish. I have taken three long exposures (120 seconds - 164 seconds) before this started happening. Though I am suspicious I am not sure if I have burned the sensor. Is 164 seconds exposure at f/8 too much? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

It would help if you posted an example. Without it we're shooting in the dark

Anyway, let me take a shot in the dark: Earlier DSLRs had a problem with some circuitry mounted near the sensor becoming hot during long exposures and that would affect the sensor and lead to color casts. These color casts would typically be at an edge or a corner, and not affect the entire frame. The color cast would go away when the circuitry cooled down, in other words, no permanent damage.

That almost looks like a colour space problem. I don't suppose you could post something with the exif data intact?

Is the camera now also defect at normal shutter speeds?

Which white balance setting did you use?

I suspect that your camera is defect. It could look as if a color channel is missing and/or white balance is way off. Perhaps it overheated when you did the long exposures.

I have used both Cloudy and Auto with normal shutter speeds and the results are same. Is it a common/known problem with *ist DS when long exposures are used? Not sure if I should send it across to Pentax service center for repair. They seem very expensive.

I don't know if this is a common problem. A repair probably doesn't make sense. You could check the market place on the forum for a second hand newer body, or perhaps look for a new K-x (discontinued but might still be available for a reasonable price) or K-r.
