Curious to know how fellow Pentaxians handle focusing on moving objects – specifically, objects/people moving toward you. Continuous/servo AF? Manual focus pre-focused to a zone? “Catch-in” focus?

Thanks,

Depends somewhat on the exact type of scene but, generally speaking: Catch-in focus PLUS option set for use of the OK-button to cancel AF.

Having the ability to cancel AF while using Catch-in, you may still shoot should moving persons or similar suddenly interfere with your target at a critical moment. I guess this differs from model to model, but with my K200D it is menu 12 ("OK Button While Shooting"), Item 4 ("Cancel AF") in the Custom Setting Menu.

On my K20D, I just flick the AF switch between AF.S (for CIF), AF.C (for AF) and MF (for... MF!) since I know of no other way to just cancel AF.

So how do YOU handle focusing on moving objects?
I don't bother trying. Pentax's AF (even the K5) isn't fast enough to accurately focus on anything moving faster than dead slow unless it is quite far away.
