Rewinder Knob

I have a Pentax K1000 and the rewind knob broke off. I have a replacement but I can not put the rod back in. Does it screw back in or do I have to force it back in? please any help my daughter needs camera for class tomorrow.

Try this, it might have some useful information.Pentax Manuals
Third from the bottom before Fujica. No high hopes however.

If the rod is not going back in to the chassis, then the little mechanism that helps retain and give the little click has possibly slipped in the way. If you sight down the hole of the rewind rod you may see the finger of the hold device and a bit of something for the door latch. If you have a solid probe to prod it aside from the top, you can slip the rod from the bottom. If possible don't force it or if it is a little overly loose, it may bend and get stuck requiring disassembly of the top shell or damage your new spindle.

Actual assembly of a K1000 with the shell removed.

Did you sight down the opening?
You should see the spring and maybe a little slight projection more near the inside end.
In some models the spring could be curved slightly, but it should push out of the way... maybe with the help of a paperclip wire?

Quick look...

see how the wire is in the way.... push the wire back into the wall of the tube to allow the shoulder of the rewind spindle to clear.

...again... a little help from a paperclip to push the spring out of the way.

Don't force! If bent bad will never clear out of the way.

If your paper clip is too big, try a thin sewing needle, but you may need to clip the tip off it is too weak.

It is difficult because you are working against a spring. Normally the proper way is to remove the shell... not easy if you are not up for it.
