What was your previous camera? K10D with first firmware version? Or K100D? Those two don't support SDM so in that case it might well be that your DA*50-135 has a SDM problem.

Make sure your Af is on (both on the lens and on the camera), and if it still doesn't AF, try another SDM lens without changing any other settings. If the other one works, then your SDM has failed and you will need to send your lens in.

Ok tried the lens that came with k-$ and it worked also. Put da* 50-135 on k100d and the auto focus worked fine that camera. It just won't work on K-7.

The lens works on k-100d.

Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera.

If the K7 is detecting the presence of an SDM lens it won't use screw drive. Your K100D used screw drive.

As other posters say, could be faulty SDM which wouldn't have shown up on your K100D because it didn't/couldn't use it.

You can't turn the SDM off.

When the 50-135 is working on your k100d can you hear the screw drive AF working? It probably sounds like your other lens when it's focusing?

The 50-135 has 2 means of autofocusing, on older cameras it will AF via screw drive, on newer cameras like the K7 though it will use the in-lens AF motor ("SDM"). However SDM is prone to failure and unfortunately on newer cameras there's no way to revert the lens AF to the screw drive.

I suspect that's what's happened to your lens and it will need to be repaired to use on your K7.

SMD is very quiet. You probably don't hear anything when it functions. The reason it works on the K100D is probably because of the screw AF not the SDM since K100D doesn't support SDM lenses.

What do I need to do? Can it be fixed. If so, where do I send it. I love using it with the k100 and really want to use it with k-7.

Send it to whoever the official pentax repairer is in your country. If you're in the USA then it's CRIS, if you're in Australia it's CR Kennedy. I'd image you'll be up for ~$250ish give or take a bit.
