Can any-one tell me the difference between the standard smc da lens and the smc pda lens?
Thanks

Both terms refer to the same thing, as some people abbreviate "smc pentax" as smc-p (Pentax themselves are inconsistent in naming lenses on their sites). If I were them I'd drop the SMC prefix completely, as multi-coating is standard on all respectable lenses these days.

All lenses that are new and well made have multi-coating. The name for the Pentax version is SMC (Super Multi Coating). Pentax added a new layer to some of there newer (for the most part premium like the DA*) lenses P (for Protection I believe). This coating on the outer lens element is for protecting the SMC from small scratches (I think it is Florine based) and gives the refection (not what the lens takes a photo of) a light green tint as compared to the normal blue of the SMC.

The SP (superprotect) coating does not have any place in lens naming. There is no difference between smc and smc-p. smc-P is simply abbreviation of smc-Pentax.

I stand corrected.
