Pentax-FA* 85mm F1.4 or Pentax-FA 85mm F2.8 Soft

Hi,

What is difference between Pentax-FA* 85mm F1.4 and Pentax-FA 85mm F2.8 Soft ?
Price seems to be one.
Something else?

The FA*85mm f1.4 is a faster prime lens and very highly regarded. Some Pentaxians regard it as a dream lens for portrait.

The FA85mm f2.8 is slower and slightly less pricy.

Both are out of production unfortunately.

Food for thoughts....

The soft lens isn't something you'd use for everyday shooting, also it doesn't feature auto-aperture, as the aperture actually controls the degree of softness. In the digital era this sort of effect can easily be mimmiced in photoshop, so some might say that the lens is obsolete.

The FA* 85mm is a fantastic lens- if it only had quick-shift focusing like modern lenses, I'd say it's the ideal lens! I use mine all the time.

Long time ago one friend teach me trick, with right hand small finger pres lens relase button after getting focus confirmation and you have quickshift that works with screwdrive lenses. It works for my fa50 and fa35.
