Problem with my K200D

I have a K200D and when I try to use the 2 sec. timer it makes a clicking sound, and the picture comes out blurred. Up to 8-11 F stops it does ok in good light. In stops of 16-22 in low light it also makes this sound. It clicks a time or two, then the shutter works but the image is blurred even on a tripod.

Thanks for any help.

Melvin

Sounds very strange. Does it happen with the 12 second timer too? Is the click when it takes the picture, or when you press the shutter?

Maybe a silly question, but did you switch off SR when using a tripod?

Hearing multiple clicks is normal, because the camera is flipping up the mirror immediately and opening the shutter only after 2s. This is because the 2s delay feature is also a replacement for the mirror pre-release of the old days. The camera should have calmed down from vibrations caused by the mirror flipping prior to the opening of the shutter.

The clicks are prior to the shutter sound, and I did switch off SR. Always do when I use a tripod. Hearing these sounds are not normal. At least I never heard them before. They are so loud I can`t even hear the beep.

I guess I`ll just send it to Pentax.

Thanks for the replies

The SR will be automatically deactivated when selecting the 2 or 12 second delay.

It sounds to me like there might be a problem with the mirror movement, though Im guessing as Ive never heard of a problem like this before.

I am a K200D owner too and use the 2s delay extensively due to the mirror lock-up feature. The fact that your pictures come out blurred indicate to me that there must be something wrong with the mirror lock-up mecahnism. It might also be an error in the Shake Reduction mechanism (that should turn off automatically when the 2s dealy is used). Under all circumstances it sounds to me as if a repair is required.

You might of course first try the usual "desperate" tricks and reset all settings; remove batteries; insert freshly charged batteries....

Please let us know the diagnosis once you have got it.

Good luck!

PS.: Just another very wild idea: Does it happen with all lenses that you have?

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, it does it with all lens. I think you are right when you say it has something to do with the mirror.
I shipped it off to Pentax this morning. Probably will hear the diagnosis next week. I will let you know.

Thanks again.
