Which tele prime?

which tele lens would be good for candid/portrait photography? I want shallow depth of field and my budget is low so i was thinking of a manual lens like the SMC 135mm 2.4 but it is a bit pricey for my budget.. another posibility could be the Takumar 135mm 2.4 but i have read bad reviews about this one. ive also read about the cosina 100mm 3.5 with macro capabilities but couldnt find any for sale in ebay.

I was also thinking on getting a teleconverter that i can use with my 50mm 1.4.. so ill get a 100mm 2.8 but not sure if it would be better than getting the lens.

What do you think?

If you are looking for a 135mm at a reasonable price, the M 135mm F3.5 might fit the bill.

Or, as you suggest, a 2x teleconverter for your 50mm.

What is your budget?

Check out the Samyang (variants) 85mm 1.4 - the best lens for the money currently on the market...

Many good-to-outstanding manual 135/2.8 lenses are available cheap, probably for less than an A-type 2x TC, certainly much less than a 1.4x TC. Look for a Sears or Focal 135/2.8 in KA or KR mount, probably under US$25.

+1 to this. I have the vanilla Vivitar 135/2.8 in k-mount, with the built-in hood. I was a bit reluctant to pay the craigslist seller the $20 he was asking, but I'm so glad I did! It's sharp with beautiful color rendering, and built like a tank (if you like that type of thing ). I've used it numerous times at the kids' school concerts, plays, works well in low light, and outdoor shooting.
