Lens pricing

I've never really sold lenses before, feels so unnatural. But I'm going to try it for the first time, hence the placement in the beginners corner.

For some reason I really want the DA 18-135 and I've decided to sell some other lenses to fund that.

My question is, what's a realistic asking/starting price for the below lenses?

DA 16-45
DA 18-55 II
Ricoh Rikenon 55mm 1.4 M42

Having a look in the lens review section is a start, you can also have a look at what they've sold for on here recently (in the sold section of the marketplace).

Good luck with the sales!

Wow, I'll never get the prices states in the lens review section. I'll take a peek in the sold section.

Another question:
I've been comparing lens reviews to see if the 18-135 also is a upgrade in terms of IQ. But the more reviews I read, the foggier it gets.

Some reviews rave about the optical superior performance of the 18-135, others bash it into the ground.

I want it because of the large range and SDM. The WR is good bonus, because currently I have a WR body, but no WR lens to accompany it. But that's all unimportant if I'm going to be dissapointed in the IQ it produces.

Any Pentaxian around owns/owned both with a opinion? I'll value that many times more then those reviews.

Like all all-around lenses, the 18-135mm zoom lens is a compromise over the focal length range. A lot was said about the 18-135mm. Its assets are WR and it is available new. On the other hand, the lens is not really a major improvement from the Tamron/DA18-250mm. With a longer focal length range and comparable IQ, many Pentaxians regard the Tamron/DA18-250mm as a better all-around lens. But ... you can only buy it 2nd hand.

NB: the 18-135mm does not have SDM. It has quickshift on the other hand.

Lastly the lens user's reviews (eg https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/SMC-Pentax-DA-18-135mm-F3.5-5.6-ED-AL-IF-DC-WR.html) are a good place to see the price of lenses. For example, the DA16-45mm is sold around $250. But note that these prices do include the shipping costs no the Paypal fees. You be better to state upfront if your selling price is inclusive or not of shipping and Paylpal fees.

Hope that the comments will assist....

But the databse states it has SDM right here: Pentax-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR Reviews - DA Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

Anyway, all I really want to know is: If I trade in my 16-45 for the 18-135, am I upgrading or downgrading IQ-wise?

The 18-135 has a DC auto focus motor.. it's nice and quiet and pretty fast. For a glorified kit lens with WR the 18-135 is worth it's current price tag.. it wasn't worth the $675 or so I paid when it was a new item on the market.

I had an 18-135 for a few weeks, which I got with my K-5. It is very nicely built, very compact, very quick to focus.

However, I became disappointed very quickly with its edge sharpness, which on my copy at least was very poor - noticeable on architecture even on images resized for the web, even stopped down to F8 or more.

I sold it in P/Ex for a Sigma 50-500 !!

Meanwhile, I've been searching and reading this forum about the 18-135, and you're not alone in your observations.

Like I said, some reviews may prize this lens, but real user experiences are of much more value to me.

Knowing myself, I will have lots of trouble accepting poor IQ.

Sadly, there are no high quality SDM+WR options that I can afford. Oh well, I'll just continue with the DIYWR (plastic bags around my 16-45) then.

Everybody thanks for the replies!

Just to chime in, I typically see the 16-45 selling for around 220-230 as I was looking to get one. As for the 18-55, I see it often listed for 50, but I don't know if they sell.
