If it's got the pentax mount which it sounds like to does, you should be kosher- it will work like a modern lens except that you'll have to focus manually.

If it has a "ricoh" pin in the back then don't use it; you can read more about this by searching numerous threads on the forum.

For what its worth - the "R" has the extra Rico pin. I have one and it was easy to remove (unscrew mount, remove pin, screw back together) - now works perfectly. I really like this lens because it has respectable sharpness and bokeh.

Search for "Rico Pin" here and you will find examples with photos.

It is unlikely to be a Phillips screw - more probably a JIS - Japanese Industrial Standard one. If it is tight then you are likely to mangle the screw head with a Phillips driver. It is often better to use a small flat blade driver. Or get the real thing.

That I did not know. I have just ordered some JIS schrewdrivers. Thank you for letting me know. I Hope the lens is worth modifying.''

Do you have the 49mm or 52mm filter thread version.
I have the 49mm ver. I had to remove the aperture lever protector as well to mount on my K-x. My Tokina 28mm f2.8 P/K-A.R ( no El, no RMC) 49mm filter thread has very wide protector (almost 1/4 circle) but very easy to remove.
