Focus mode lever locked

Hello,

I own a Pentax K200D since 2008. For the last few days I can't switch the focus mode lever between AF and MF. It's locked at MF. What could it be?

Your mechanism might be broken, or your lens could be on wrong.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried with different lenses, without them, with the power on and off, without batteries and it is still happening.

Sounds like it's the mechanism- the most likely cause is that the AF shaft is jammed. Try wiggling it around with a pen and see if it comes loose.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your help, but it does not work. The lever seems to be very hard locked.

Hi,
I can confirm what Adam said ast I had the same problem and it is due to the mechanism behind the plastic part that is dislocated.
You can try to move it while pressing the focus button with the camera on and see if it comes back into place with few shoots in sequence.
Luckily mine remained in AF.
Ciao

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure which one is the focus button on the Pentax K200D.

Hello again,
keep pressing half way the shooting button while you are trying to unlock/lock the AF/MF switch until you hear a possible click or unjammed reaction.
If it fails I am afraid you need a lab assistance.

Ant

Thanks again. It does not work. Therefore, I'm afraid I need technical assistance.

Hello,
I just want to give an update about this issue.
I noticed that this issue tend to happen when a DA Lens is mounted after the use of a Manual or A lens.
I discovered that the switch goes back to normal only if the AF lens is mounted after that the position MF is switched back BEFORE the removal of the Manual focus lens and setting the dial in AUTO.
Repace the lens and have a couple of shots in Auto.
The switch will work again.
Regards,
Ant
