watch out stuck rear lens cap

Hi all,

Just to get people attentions of the stupid pentax rear lens cap, it will get stuck and can't be removed.

the lens cap get stucked so tight..that I can turn certain degree if i use force. I end up using the hair dryer and keep turning, i hear a 'pop' and the lens cap is off.

I try to observe what is wrong but the cap doesn't indicate any direction or alignment, so i guess it is just stupid design.

Anyway, just to give you guys an alert of what it may happen.

with a brand like pentax, the design should be foolproof, either I can't put it on, or I put it the right way.

Been using Pentax for 2 decades and never heard of it. By any chance the bayonets weren't aligned when tightening?

You should be able to break the cap off worst case- it's make of plastic, after all

I've never heard of this either, though.

Interesting. I have replaced all my rear sigma lens caps with pentax caps as the pentax caps don't need to be aligned. maybe that is wear a problem could occur, but the pentax lens caps are a lot less of a hassle getting on and off.

I've had some lens caps get "loose", where they wouldn't hold tight onto the lens. Never had it too tight.

Some of the aftermarket flanged caps (to protect the contacts) goes on okay but seem like it's stuck when I try to take it off. When you turn the cap to pull it off, you get to the point where it stops turning, just grab it firmly and pull it off. Other than that, it's fine.

As EXCANONFD points out, its likely the ebay cheapies, not the original Pentax caps. I have a mixture too and have learned to cull the overlytight ones from an ebay shipment rather than put up with the hassle. I suggest you buy another bag of them and toss (or modify) the ugly ones.

Me too. Buy them at $1-2 each just so I don't have to fumble with the alignment issue. The OP can always buy the REALLY cheap soft plastic ones that are friction types that just push onto the mount. I have one in my bag for quick changes when swapping lenses in the field.

It's likely not the Pentax lens cap that is problematic in this instance.

It's impossible to make things foolproof because fools are so damn ingenious
