Sigma 120-400 hsm NON OS

Any advice on this would be helpfull. Exif data states that this lens is 70-200. I have done the debug menu on my K-7 and K20 and both cameras state that lens is Sigma Lens 70-200, not 120-400. I am only concerned as I sold my sig 70-200 for the 120-400 (needed reach not speed) I have now re purchased sig 70-200, hind sight I should have went with Tamron of same breeding. (still waiting for arrival). I dont know what to make of it. I aslo have a samyang 8mm and exif states its a 180mm, and yes this happens while SR is off ( I thought Sr may have been the issue)
Any help much apprieciated
Cheers
Shane

I could be wrong but I think this is a programming issue on Sigma's end and that there isn't anything that can be done by you to fix the data the camera is receiving. I'm not sure if the lens can be sent in to be programmed with the correct information, but that sounds like more work than most would want to do. I never checked this myself when I owned the HSM OS version (and picasa albums strips the info from my K-5 files unfortunately, otherwise I'd check!).

Gee I dont want to sound rude or obnoxious ( me is not into correct spelling) If this is the case for this lens what is going to happen if I attach 70-200 will it screw up debug for 120-400 or will both lenses become similar????????

The camera doesn't know anything about the lens that the lens doesn't tell it. Sounds as though the lens has the wrong/misprogrammed chip, especially as both cameras report the same issue. You could try it on someone else's camera but I suspect it would be the same. If its a chip programmed for the 70-200 it will presumably mean that SR is not being applied optimally either as the camera will always receive the wrong focal length. If the lens is still under warranty Sigma should correct it.

Very common with Sigma. My Sigma 18-250 shows as a 70-200 as well.

I am out of warranty. It is odd two different cams report same, my issue is what to do with new 70-200???? I think me is gonna have issues I dont understand as to why a k7 and k20 are stating lens 120-400 is 70-200.
