No Picture on *ist DL

I went out this last weekend to a Boy Scout activity to take pictures... the camera starts up normally, I can review pictures taken (prior to this event), and it focuses correctly. However, when I take the picture it only results in a black picture... nothing else. The review window shows a black screen as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

*** Made typo on the title... it is a DL not a DS

Sounds to me like the senser is shot but wait for others to reply because I'm no expert.

Could be a number of things, shutter, mirror, electronic failure, good reason for an upgrade.

Well, I know it is not the shutter or the mirror, as I have take the lens off and fired off a few shots and I can see the shutter open and the mirror go up (and a quick view of the sensor).... it should have resulted in a white, not detail picture, but it is till just a black square.

That would have been nice, but no dice... made no difference with a new card.

Sorry, but it does sound like the sensor has given up. Good time to look for a used K-X. You'll be able to use your lenses and batteries and accessories with the K-X. You could also sell you old camera on ebay as a broken camera and get some money back.

Something just came to me while I was reading the last post.

Have you tried a different lens? I first said senser and ruled out the sd card because you said you could see other pictures you had taken, anyways, if you have a second lens, try that. Maybe problem with the apature not working in the lens you are using, or dirty contacts causing the apature to not work.

No, it is not a stuck aperture... I have tried it without a lens just to get a white picture, but it was still black. I have tried to search the net for a replacement sensor, but have been unable to locate a source. A repair service would have to charge more than it would be worth to fix, given you can get used ones at about the same or less on ebay.

I used to fix my old Petri mechanical cameras, and wouldn't mind having a go at this one...

Look on ebay for broken DL. Contact people here that have a DL that will not turn on.

I looked at that one.. but if it is taking pictures as a streak, couldn't its ccd also be defective? Hard to tell without a sample or more information, I would think... thoughts?

That is possible and to be honest, I didn't think about that. I was thinking more about the rear screen.
