Question about correct EV for Pentax IstDs

Hi everyone, I have a few questions: I have a Pentax IstDs with the following lenses: the kit 18-55 da lens kit, Da L 50-200mm and a Pentax M 1.7 lens, I want to know any tricks or tips for correct exposure with these lenses, what type of mode is better for it: aperture priority or manual? any help would be appreciate it.

The 2 zooms will work correctly with all modes. Which to use will depend on personal preferences and type of photography. If you shooting fast moving subjects (e.g. sports) then shutter priority with a high speed is appropriate.

Most lenses perform their best at middle apertures centered around F8, so if the lighting conditions allows it, set Aperture priority with F8 for these 2 lenses.

Your M F1.7 (I assume 50mm) is a manual lens and you can use it only wide open in aperture priority, but to take control you must use it in Manual along with the green button to measure the exposure.

And see the stocky thread at the top of this forum for more on using manual lenses.

So, the zooms work as they shold in all exposure modes, the prime only in M mode. Meaning, you will get the expsorue that the cameras is correct. Wheter you agree with the camera or not in all situations is another matter. There are always situations (scenes that are brighter or darker than avergae, scenes with very bight highlights, backlit scenes, etc) in which it is likely you will disagree with the camera - any camera. The solution is to learn about how exposure and metering work - any basic book on photography will cover that, and then apply EV compensation when appropriate (or manually adjust parameters in M mode).
