What is dc motor?

Hello, i was wondering if someone could explain what is this dc motor focusing system found on th 18-135 da?

From what i understand this lens will not support the screw driven af system. So what cameras will support this dc version? Will my old km/k2000? Does the km have the contacts to use the dc technology?

Lastlly does the km/m2000 support sdm lenses? From my understanding the sdm technology uses the screw driven af still right? Which the km/k2000 does support.

Any help would be gladly appreciated thanks

If your camera support SDM then it will be alright.
That's a yes for the Km/K2000
Every camera newer then the K100D super or K10D will be okay.

SDM and DC are motors inside the lens so the screw-drive isn't used but the camera needs to provide the power and controll the SDM/DC motor though and he does that with the PZ contacts.
Those are the two square contacts not on the edge of the mount but they lay slightly deeper.

These are the contacts.
However they where used for the powerzoom so there are cameras out there with the contacts but they don't Support SDM but those are older cameras
