Lightroom 4... Um....

Am I missing something with Lightroom 4? Its slower than mud on my system, where-as 3.6 was "ok". I'm waiting several seconds for redraws after adjusting faders and 100% zooms seem to never show. Checking Task Manager shows very little CPU being used, so what could be up?

i7 @ 2.8GHz. I just re-installed W7 with a fresh format, so I'll try that, just waiting for SP1 atm.

When I installed it yesterday, it was really slow as well. But working with it today, I don't see a big difference from 3.6. I'm wondering if it was slow while re-building catalog previews, etc.

after the W7 refresh things seem snappier - there's still some oddities with certain images like failure to redraw at 1:1, grey screens and things like that, but for the most part it seems really great. I played with some images I took today (K5) and I'm really liking the new adjustment brush capabilities. Once they get 4.01 out I bet it'll be a home-run!

Whoops. LR 4.1 RC - almost completely unusable on my system. Constant hangs (for about 20 to 30 seconds), failure to redraw at 1:1, failure to draw adjustment brush etc.

I'm glad its working for you guys, but its completely useless to me right now. I'm going back to 3.6 for now.

Don't forget to file a bug or problem report with Adobe, as outlined in the pentaxforums post below. Adobe seem to be working actively to fix up the current issues with 4.x, as cbope reports:

I still find it strange that we didn't had most of these bugs with the beta...

They just released a version 4.1 Release Candidate. I'm patiently waiting for the full 4.1 version, though. Might fix it's issues with being slow and should fix the external editing problems.

4.1 RC fixes the the external editing issue, however, for me it seems even more laggy than 4.0

Yes they made changes resulting from people reporting problems and they were still finishing up the job. Normal for S/W development. Beta 2 would have been nice but "the schedule" rules.

See Lightroom Forums. Lots of very useful information about these and other issues.
