about min. focus distance

the given data about min.focus distance of a lens, is that the distance between subject to the front of lens or subject to the sensor?

Would love to see an answer to this myself...never really asked that question, and now that I think about it, I'm wondering as well.

I asked that question too and was told sensor. Now that I sit here looking at my shelf of lenses, I wonder why I've never simply measured to be sure.

Focus distance is always from the film plane (sensor) to the subject. The markings on a lens will probably be an approximation at best, and may be off by several millimeters at close focus.

Some lenses are also specified with working distance which is the distance from the front element

As was stated, it is distance from the sensor,film to the subject. This can be easily measured. To the right of the data window on the K7 and K5, hopefully for the Kx and Kr, there is a symbol, a 0 with a line through it (the line going from right to left) This line indicates the position of the sensor relative to the camera body. Many film cameras have this same symbol.
