Oh, I absolutely agree! That's exactly why I use PEF.

Yeah, but Windows 7 64 bit won't read DNGs so that's why I got the DNG converter in the first place, the added benefit of Adobe Elements 6 not seeing them either helped.

Not sure why you're saying that W7-64 won't read DNGs. I can't recall how I have done it but my DNG RAW files are read by W7-64 just fine.

Mine weren't and I had to download the codec. I had to wait almost a year before it was available. Are you sure you didn't have it already installed via an Adobe product?

No, I use Explorer to view documents and tree structure and recall that it would not show thumbnails of the RAW files until I went to the MS site and downloaded a file for W7-64 and then I was able to view them in the Explorer and other MS products.

I thought you missed that under message.

And I found this one from Adobe Labs:

DNG Codec - Adobe Labs

This. I can vouch that this codec runs and works in Win 7 64bit version.

That's exactly what I did because of the same reason. Then later Adobe came out with their version and I got that too, because my PhotoShop Elements version wouldn't see the RAW files.

I'm running Win7-64. I ahve to use DNG with my K-01. I'd always used PEF before. My WinViewer only shows an icon for the files. Running Elements 9, of course, I see the thumbnails but I have to deal withn the ridiculous load time for the preview to access all my folders (haven't changed that yet). I never did get the PEF codec to properly load in Elements 9. So I guess I affirm what photolady says. Tonight I'll download that codec and see what happens - and change Elements Organizer. PP is a PITA.

Why? I just stop it from doing that. In the address bar on the left hand side there is an X , click that and it'll stop loading.
