Quick cable release question

Is the cable release socket on the K-5 a generic size so I can get any brand, or is it Pentax specific? I have not used a cable release before (had an IR remote for my old Canon), so I haven't looked into it. Just wanted to know if I can go to the local camera shop and grab a release or if I need to order one. Would be nice to grab one quickly (even if it's a few bucks more), but no Pentax gear to be found nearby.

I have the K-5 with me so we can always test the fit. But sometimes just because something fits, you can't assume it will work or not hurt anything.

Thanks for your help.

It's a 2.5mm stereo headphone jack. As I understand it, Canon and "consumer" Nikon use the same jack. (Nikon's "professional" cameras use a proprietary jack.)

Any release that works with Canon Rebel series cameras will work with the K-5. I got one on eBay for about $6 that works great.

Dittoo on that, though mine was a bit more. Did yours have a Shutter release lock down? Mine needs to be finessed a bit to get the auto focussing to kick in without snapping the shutter, but it is a technique thing. They are great to have. In a pinch, using the self timer can also work.
