Do you all read your camera user manuals?

I've owned my k-r for 10 months now and have barely read the manual ;( I guess I should finish reading it

I read most of the K-x manual before I even received the camera. I'm just about to download the K-5 manual and start reading that (Friday can't get here soon enough )

With my first Pentax DSLR (Km), I read it pretty heavily to figure out how it works. With my second (K5) I've used it to understand features new to me, but I've never read them cover to cover.

I didn't read anything at all and it was my first ever SLR camera.

Then I got my second lens last month and couldn't figure out something so I registered on this forum.

I should really start reading it, lol

I read and re-read all camera manuals. (Lens manuals don't get such close attention.) Even for digicams I've had for a decade, there's always more to learn or refresh. If I travel with complex devices, I haul along their manuals. Right now I have the manuals for the K20D, AF360FGZ, ZX-M, Sony DSC-V1 (the DSC-P10 is close enough that I can use the V1 manual), Olympus 770SW, and Minolta AutoMeter IIIn. (For this trip I left behind the Icom IC-R2 radio and its manual.) How d'y'all think I pop up with all my answers here, that I just pull them outta my butt? I keep a little HTML/CSS reference guide with me too, for website wonking. Reading these on-screen just ain't the same. Knowledge is power, or something like that. Selah!

I've read all of them for the k10, k20, k100ds, and the film cameras but for some reason, my k5 manual is only partially read, I lost it some where in video mode as I recall...

Yes, cover to cover when I first got my Kx (first DSLR camera). I also referr to it often . Have it downloaded on my laptop.

I can grab any camera and have 98% of the feature set figured out within a short time.

The manuals are good for the other 2%, explaining cryptic features and/or shortcuts (dual button press, long button press to access something0or-other etc...)

So yes, I always read the manuals.

Yes, cover to cover. Download the pdf versions, they are easier to search through.

You know that your DSLR "can do many things" - but exactly how many? And how do you make your camera do these things???

Before I bought my *ist DL I read the manual to be safe, that it it could do what I needed most (and discovered a few "wow, nice-to-have" features more). Same story before I bought my K200D (with even more "wow-features"). And when I bought the K-5 I read the manual first once again. I knew it could do all and a bit more than I would ever need - but I was overwhelmed to find so many useful features that I hadn't really thought of.

Yes, I always read the manual first. And when I run into problems, it is much easier to the find the pages that hold the clues to my problems.
