800mm focal length with 105mm Takumar?

Hi Guys

My camera is Kx and I use a 105mm 2.8 Takumar on Aperture or Manual mode.
Now, when I click my camera on, it asks me for focal length. I can see that I can dial in a focal length of upto 800mm if I want to. Why am I being offered that sort of focal length? Has my 105mm lens turned into a super-zoom 800mm lens for some reason? And what is the correct thing to do to choose the right focal length?

The correct Focal length is important for the camera to properly stabilize camera shake. The longer the lens the greater the sensor compensation needs to be for the equivalent vibration.

Edit: It will ask for this info as the camera has no way of identifying the lens if it doesn't have the correct contacts. So for the 105, Choose 105mm or the nearest give value.

As explained, you enter the closest focal lenght to assist the SR. If you shoot on tripod and do not use SR, this becomes irrelevant.

This data has no other effects on the IQ but the SR.

As noted the only reason for the camera to ask for focal length is so it can determine the shake reduction setting. AFAIK there is no 105 setting, which I find odd, since it is a Pentax (well, Asahi) lens. I just set mine to the 100mm setting.

There is another reason for setting it properly, however. This sets the focal length in the file's EXIF so when looking at it later, or during PP, you know the focal length. If you are shooting with a bunch of different Takumars this is very important because sometimes it is the only clue as to which lens is being used.
