I have a Samsung GX-1L which is equivalent to the Pentax *istDL2. When my camera is turned on, it tells me what mode it's in, which is what it's supposed to do. But the mode is never the one it is set on, or it will display the same mode for several different mode positions on the wheel. Sometimes it will even flash rapidly between two different modes for up to a minute until I turn it off. It can still take pictures and they will come out okay depending on if the mode it is in fits the situation. I thought a firmware update may correct the situation and Samsung doesn't offer any, but the Pentax site has one for the *istDL2, so I was thinking of downloading that and crossing my fingers. Any ideas of what the issue may be or how to resolve it?

I would speculate that the mode dial is faulty. Either dirt or moisture has entered the contacts below the dial or it is simply worn out.
